Ellipsis

Some say God has placed commas,
Others know periods were meant.
Me, I’m not so sure

If God were a grammarian
Or copyeditor—
Who enforced “perfect” English;

Why not an ellipsis?

To the Author’s trusting heart

An invitation to wonder …
A call to faith …

And, what if the heavens really are higher than the earth?
What if God’s ways and thoughts
Are higher than ours?

How do you punctuate the Good News?
How would you diagram the Living Word?

When what we are all welcome to do
Is to trust and receive / to be and to bear
The Light, and the Love, and the Life of Christ
To a world in need …
