Refugee Thoughts

The prayer for wisdom is understandable.
But, there is much wisdom in the prayer for understanding.

Many streams and strong currents there are
At work and at play
Within us all.

Fierce winds and towering waves
Of fear and of hope
Displacing one another in turn.

Life-giving. Storm-bringing. Great forces
Drawing and driving us steadily after their virtues
Or, sadly before their whims.

While the philosopher and the theologian
Seek, with words, to unravel the mysteries
Of Movement, Life and Being…
(The sad and comic figure of a microscope gazing at itself)
…God knows the secrets of the heart. ~Psalm 44:21

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” ~Psalm 139:23, 24
