Spring Bloom & First Fruits

a reflection on the flood effort in N. Dakota & Minnesota

There are many ways we live our lives
Apart from what gives us Life:

Belief in something more
A vision of something better
Knowing there is someone who cares

That our memories are short and selective
That we pride ourselves on ourselves
That we tend to take for granted

Often cuts us off from Faith, Hope and Love
Which, require remembrance, humility and gratitude
In order to take root, grow strong and bear fruit in our lives

I may feel overwhelmed by rising waters and falling snow
But, I am overcome by the love of my neighbor
And a living witness to Emmanuel
God with us.

Brian,
Perhaps short memories are a gift from God - otherwise too much pain would accumulate.
I do remember, though, that in 1997 the mayor, or someone in Fargo, in commenting on the help of the college students said "I will never look at purple hair and nose rings in quite the same way again!"
