Something Important

There was once Something Very Important
Someone wanted to say to us

And, it was:

Loudly proclaimed for all to hear
Gently whispered into the recesses of our hearts
Sung by many voices / Shouted from rooftops
Cried out in the streets
Carefully worded and written down
But, we forgot to listen.

There was once Something Very Important
Someone wanted to show us

And, it was:

Lifted up for a clearer view
Brought low for a closer look
Prominently displayed
On exhibit / Up for inspection
Carefully arranged and set apart
But, we didn’t know how to see.

There was once Something Very Important
Someone wanted to give us

And, it was:

Placed in our hands
Entrusted to our keeping
Offered to us to hold
Released into our grasp
Surrendered / Turned over
But, our arms were so tightly wrapped
Around ourselves…

…leaving us to build a faith
On faded echoes
Dressing room mirrors
And, the memory of dreams.

“Do you have eyes, and fail to see? Do you have ears, and fail to hear? And do you not remember?” Mark 8:18
