Opening Presence

If faith is the substance of things hoped for (Hebrews 11:1)
I wonder, then, if presence could be the substance of faith…

What it’s made of. Where wishful thinking and high hopes
Come in for a landing. Where good intentions and all-the-right-words
Take on flesh and bone, move in with us, and go to work.

Our endlessly inventive catalogue of pros and cons
Compasses that only point left or right
One-word ideologies and bumper-sticker theology

Leave me wondering about the nature:
Of looking up
Standing by
Waiting for
Leaning on
Being with
Coming to

To have to choose
Between HD black-and-white
And high-resolution shades-of-gray

Often leaves me wondering
If perhaps we aren’t coloring with all the crayons in the box.

I really like " maybe we aren't coloring with all the crayons in the box"
your mind is just incredible; wish I could think like that.
