Praying with Paul (An Apology)

I think it'd be cool to speak in the tongues of men and angels.
You gave me no water for my feet…
O Lord of the long and winding road; the high places; the narrow path and the valley of the shadow of death, have mercy on me. May the great and wondrous gifts I seek be found in humble acts that refresh the weary and heavy-laden.

I want the gift of prophecy and to be able to fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and have a faith that can move mountains.
You gave me no kiss…
O Holy One of sorrows; despised and acquainted with grief, I am sorry. May all the wisdom I need be gained through a loving embrace of the lonely, the lost and the least.

I may consider giving all I possess to the poor but can’t even imagine surrendering my body to the flames.
You did not anoint my head with oil…
O Child of the Manger and God of the Cross, please forgive. May the sacrifice of wealth and works in which we trust never displace the obedience and intimacy you desire. May my tithes and offerings ever be the first and best of justice, mercy and faithfulness.

Emmanuel, God with Us, Living Word in our midst…
Grant that we may:
Seek your Kingdom before all else
Honor you above all else
Love more than all else

Amen.
